Essential skills while operating a vehicle in motion

With all the driving on a trip like this, there are some essential skills needed. The basics of course includes operating the radio while driving, talking on the cellphone, typing text messages, finding your mp3 player and your iTrip in the suitcase in the back seat, including finding a good placement for optimal radio reception. These are skills required by all wanting to set out on a longer trip.

After driving for a while, specially when you really don't want to stop the car because you need to be somewhere, for instance the ferry, at a certain time, it becomes important to master a few other skills. I mention:
  • Opening, and eating a box of yogurt - with the spoon that is located somewhere in the back seat.
  • Reading the maps, and finding those hard to read names of small cities with tiny print.
  • Preparing dinner (which for my trip so far has consisted of cutting the bread, skipping the butter and putting a slice of salami on top)
  • Reading the Lonely Planet Guidebook to get the interesting facts about the places you're passing through.
  • Trimming your mustache which is growing too long, so it gets in your mouth while eating
  • Changing clothes. This is essential, as it is important to be ready for the lift lines as soon as you pull into the parking lot. Changing your long woolen underpants, changing socks, or putting on your ski pants while driving may sound tricky at first, but after you familiarize yourself with using not only the left foot for the gas and break, it becomes quite easy. You may however allow yourself to put on your ski boots and goggles until your car has come to a full stop at the parking lot.
DISCLAMER: I don't take any responsibilities for accidents that may occur due to you trying this at home. And make sure to practice these skills at a closed off area with medical crew standing by, would their assistance be needed.
